Frequently asked questions
How do I order?
Upload your photo, choose the size and paper, and pay. That is it. We take it from there, get it printed, and let you know when it is ready. If anything is unclear along the way, just ask.
What can you print, and what sizes?
Any image worth printing properly, in any size up to A2. That includes the standard A sizes, the classic photo formats for albums and frames like 4 × 6″, 5 × 7″ and 8 × 10″, and fully custom sizes cut to the millimetre. Most often it is a photograph, but it can just as easily be a piece of art, a watercolour or painting to reproduce, a child’s drawing, a poster, or an old scanned family picture. We are not a bulk snapshot lab, stacks of cheap prints are done well enough by the big chains. Mohua Print is for the pictures you want to give a deserved presentation.
How much does a print cost?
Prices for a print of your own photo on our standard paper, GST included:
- A5 $12
- A4 $20
- A3 $35
- A2 $65
Printed on Ilford Smooth Pearl. Upgrading the paper quality to Hahnemühle Photo Rag (fine art matte) adds $8 to $20 extra, depending on size. Custom and classic photo sizes (5 × 7″ for example) are priced as the smallest sheet they are cut from, so a 5 × 7″ costs the same as an A5. Custom editing starts at $25 and is quoted before printing, so you can decide. Gallery prints are priced separately.
What kind of files are required to upload?
JPG, PNG, HEIC, WEBP or TIFF. As a rule of thumb, the bigger the original file size the better, especially for larger prints. Small files have a poor image quality for bigger prints. Our upload tool detects print quality and we will manually check as well before printing and reach out to you, if we cannot guarantee a sufficient result.
How long does it take?
Usually one to two days from order to ready. If you need something by a certain date, just say so and we will let you know if it works.
Where do I pick up, or can you deliver?
Pickup is in Golden Bay, near Tākaka. We also post nationwide with NZ Post to any address in New Zealand, rural addresses included. For Golden Bay locals we can also arrange a drop off, just leave us a note at checkout.
How do I pay?
Securely by card through Stripe at checkout. If you would rather pay another way, cash for example, get in touch and we will see what works.
Do you fix up photos before printing?
Two ways. By default we include a light tidy-up: if we see a colour cast, a horizon that is not quite straight, or an image that is a touch too dark, we correct it before printing. If you would rather we did not touch your file at all, choose “Print as is” and we print exactly what you uploaded. If we ever spot something bigger that would impact the quality of the print, we’ll reach out to you first before printing.
What if I need more than a light tidy up of my image?
You can choose “Custom editing”, from $25. We’ll get in touch with you before printing and talk through exactly what you want done and what is possible. We then send you a quote and you can decide. Only after we’ll go ahead.
Why do you only offer two papers?
Our two papers, Ilford Smooth Pearl and Hahnemühle Photo Rag, are of the highest quality and cover almost every use case perfectly. Ilford has a silky pearl sheen. Hahnemühle a matte tactile gallery grade. Between them you can print just about any photo beautifully.
Tell me more about the papers.
Ilford GALERIE Prestige Smooth Pearl, 310gsm: It is a classic photographic paper with a fine, slightly lustrous surface, deep blacks and rich, punchy colour. It is the natural choice for most photos, family pictures, holidays, anything where you want that crisp, vivid look.
Hahnemühle Photo Rag, 308gsm: a 100 percent cotton rag paper with a matte, soft, tactile, slightly textured surface. It gives an almost three dimensional, art print feel, with beautiful tonal depth. It suits landscapes, black and white, and anything that deserves a gallery like presentation. Both papers are archival and made to last.
Why does the print look different from my screen?
A screen glows, paper does not. A print, especially on the matte cotton rag, will always look a little calmer and softer than the bright version on your phone or display. That is normal and part of the character of a real print. We keep this nuance in mind, when preparing your print.
What if I am not happy with it?
If something is wrong with the print, a mistake on our side or a colour problem, we will put it right or print it again. Each print is made to order from your photo. So we don’t offer a general change of mind return. However if the print quality is not to your expectations, tell us and we will sort it together.
Will I get a receipt with GST?
Yes. Mohua Print is operated by Neonpale Limited and every order comes with a proper GST receipt.
