Frequently asked questions
How do I order?
Upload your photo, choose the size and paper, and pay. That is it. I take it from there, get it printed, and let you know when it is ready. If anything is unclear along the way, just ask.
What can you print, and what sizes?
Any image worth putting on a wall, from A5 up to A2. Most often that is a photograph, but it can just as easily be a piece of art, a watercolour or painting to reproduce, a child’s drawing, a poster, or an old scanned family picture. I do not do the small, quick snapshots, the big chains do those cheaply and well. What I am here for is the image you care about, printed properly and at a good size.
How much does a print cost?
Prices for a print of your own photo, GST included:
- A5 $12
- A4 $20
- A3 $35
- A2 $65
Those are on Smooth Pearl, our standard paper. Photo Rag (fine art matte) adds $8 to $20 depending on size. Custom editing, if you want it, is from $25 and quoted before printing. Gallery prints are priced separately, per piece.
What kind of files do you need?
JPG, PNG, HEIC, WEBP or TIFF. As a rule, the bigger the original file the better, especially for larger prints. If a file is too small for the size you want, I will tell you before I print rather than let it come out soft.
How long does it take?
Usually one to two days from order to ready. If you need something by a certain date, just say so and I will let you know if it works.
Where do I pick up, or can you deliver?
Pickup is in Golden Bay, near Tākaka. Or I post nationwide with NZ Post to any address in New Zealand, rural addresses included. If you are local and it is easier, we can also meet somewhere that suits or I can drop them to you.
How do I pay?
Securely by card through Stripe at checkout. If you would rather pay another way, cash for example, get in touch and we will see what works.
Do you fix up photos before printing?
Two ways. By default I include a light tidy-up: if I see a colour cast, a horizon that is not quite straight, or an image that is a touch too dark, I quietly correct it before printing. If you would rather I did not touch your file at all, choose Print as supplied and I print exactly what you upload. If I ever spot something bigger, I ask you first rather than going ahead.
What if I want more than that?
There is an add-on called Custom editing, from $25. If you book it, I get in touch before printing and we go through exactly what you want done, then send you a quote, so you know what you are getting.
Why do you only offer two papers?
Because two good papers cover almost everything, and I would rather know two papers deeply than stock ten. One is a silky pearl, the other a matte cotton rag. Between them you can print just about any photo beautifully.
Tell me about the papers.
The pearl is Ilford GALERIE Prestige Smooth Pearl, 310gsm. It is a classic photographic paper with a fine, slightly lustrous surface, deep blacks and rich, punchy colour. It is the natural choice for most photos, family pictures, holidays, anything where you want that crisp, vivid look.
The matte is Hahnemühle Photo Rag, 308gsm, a 100 percent cotton rag paper with a soft, tactile, slightly textured surface. It gives a quieter, more three dimensional, art print feel, with beautiful tonal depth. It suits landscapes, black and white, and anything you want to feel like a piece on the wall rather than a photo. Both are archival and made to last.
Why does the print look different from my screen?
A screen glows, paper does not. A print, especially on the matte cotton rag, will always look a little calmer and softer than the bright version on your phone or display. That is normal and part of the character of a real print. I keep this in mind.
What if I am not happy with it?
If something is wrong with the print, a mistake on my side or a colour problem, I will put it right or print it again. Because each print is made to order from your photo, there is no general change of mind return, but it should never come to that. If something is off, tell me and we will sort it.
Will I get a receipt with GST?
Yes. Mohua Print is operated by Neonpale Limited and every order comes with a proper GST receipt.
How do I get in touch?
Any question, just email christoph@mohuaprint.nz. For anything tricky, I would always rather you ask first.
